Position Overview The Buyer will support procurement efforts for engineered‑to‑order projects for modular solutions, which can include datacenters, packaged air and/or chilled water, power plants, etc., all within an MRP‑driven environment. Buyers are responsible for managing assigned projects, sourcing assigned commodities and expense types, and developing new suppliers, ensuring contractual requirements are met, and recommending final purchase decisions.
Key Job Responsibilities
Maintaining frequent communication with suppliers from order placement to receipt to ensure quality and schedules are met
Developing and monitoring supplier recovery plans, as necessary, for quality issues or schedule delays
Communicating risks and changes of supplier orders to appropriate TAS personnel
Soliciting and reviewing supplier quotations
Supporting the prequalification process for potential suppliers
Reconciling Bill of Materials (BOM)s to planned orders and issued Purchase Orders (PO) and working with Configuration Management and Purchasing to resolve discrepancies
Maintaining Supplier PO promise dates and receipt of materials by performing a physical check of the receiving area, if necessary
Advising senior management of non‑standard contractual issues which can create legal and business risk to TAS
Maintaining and reporting metrics on supplier performance and other assigned objectives
Maintaining good relations with supplier personnel
Resolving receiving discrepancies by comparing purchase order to delivery documentation
Assuring an uninterrupted flow of materials, supplies and services required to operate the organization
Following up purchases as necessary through correspondence or telephone to expedite order, change amounts, material, specifications, etc
Any other responsibilities as assigned by TAS
Job Skills
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Highly organized self‑starter requiring minimal supervision.
Ability to follow standard work processes.
Good organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Knowledge of materials management, purchasing methods, and expediting procedures.
Must be able to work under pressure.
Must be able to work with the team in developing improved work processes for the department.
Foundation level knowledge of standard ERP/ MRP principles and practices.
Infor/LN experience/purchasing module knowledge a plus.
Microsoft Office Suite experience, intermediate excel skills required.
Minimum Requirements
2-5 years of experience in purchasing/expediting in a custom engineered manufacturing organization to order/make to order ERP/MRP driven manufacturing environment.
Understanding of general manufacturing practices, policies and processes.
Preferred Requirements
APICS CPIM certification.
Education and Training
Bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma acceptable with appropriate industry experience.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
