Job Summary

The Director of Pricing will lead the firm’s pricing strategy, driving profitability and predictability for both the firm and its clients. This high‑impact role collaborates with leadership, attorneys, and cross‑functional teams to design and implement pricing models that balance client needs with firm objectives. Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of pricing managers and analysts. Define and implement the firm’s pricing strategy in alignment with overall financial goals. Assign, monitor, and track pricing team activities to ensure timely, high‑quality deliverables. Partner with firm leadership to improve profitability and promote data‑informed decision‑making. Pricing Development & Financial Analysis

Analyze firm financial data and external market benchmarks to develop competitive pricing models and proposals. Design and evaluate hourly, blended‑rate, and alternative fee arrangements that provide predictability and transparency for clients while protecting firm profitability. Assess pricing risk and recommend mitigation strategies to partners and firm leadership. Collaborate with Legal Project Management to align pricing assumptions with matter management and budgeting processes. Tools, Reporting & Process Improvement

Develop and implement pricing tools, templates, and best practices to streamline proposal creation and tracking. Establish and refine rate benchmarking and analytics by practice area and client segment. Leverage the firm’s technology and AI tools to enhance efficiency and insight in the pricing process. Recommend and create reports and dashboards to increase transparency for attorneys and clients. Engagement Support & Post‑Matter Review

Partner with attorneys throughout the engagement lifecycle — from scoping and proposal development through monitoring spend‑to‑budget. Support post‑engagement reviews, identifying lessons learned and improvement opportunities. Capture and standardize best practices through updated documentation, training materials, and pricing playbooks. Governance & Risk Management

Develop policies, procedures, and training to institutionalize the firm’s pricing approach. Identify and elevate pricing and engagement risks appropriately. Ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency across all deliverables. Skills and Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA, JD, or advanced degree preferred. 7–10 years of progressive experience in pricing, financial analysis, or legal project management within a law firm or professional services environment. Strong understanding of law firm economics, profitability drivers, and financial management principles. Proven experience leading teams and implementing strategic initiatives in complex organizations. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills; able to influence at all levels. Proficient in Excel, financial modeling, and familiar with e‑billing and budgeting platforms. Experience with process improvement methodologies and pricing software/tools. Litigation pricing experience a plus. Success Profile

For the New York Metro area, the expected salary range is $210,000–$230,000. For California, the range is $230,000–$250,000.
