Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, and engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity. Technical Role Overview
This is a hands?on engineering position developing mobile applications for ESPN inside the Android Ecosystem in Java/Kotlin. You will work with cross?functional teams of Product Managers, Designers, Mobile/Web/Backend Engineers, and Content Creators to conceptualise and develop world?class Disney apps. Youll manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions, and architect reusable solutions shared across all Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology apps. You may lead others to solve complex problems and provide oversight and direction to other software engineers. Responsibilities Lead projects or feature development, including overseeing architecture and solution design. Collaborate and communicate with platform and backend leads on end?to?end solutions. Break down feature development tasks into manageable tickets aligned to sprint cadence. Effectively communicate project status and raise risks that may impact release schedule to leadership. Write code, perform pull?request reviews, and create tests. Collaborate with QA and Automation teams. Interact with the Product Development team to review requirements and discuss feature development.
Basic Qualifications
7+ years hands?on professional experience with Android development. Expertise in object?oriented, functional, and functional reactive patterns. Deep knowledge of the Android app lifecycle, including Google Play and Amazon App Store compliance policies. Experience on a significant consumer app that is currently available in the marketplace. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to articulate complex ideas and influence others. Ability to serve as a resource to other software engineers, fostering cross?team knowledge sharing.
Preferred Qualifications
Expert understanding of HTTP/S, APIs, and web services. Expertise with unit test frameworks and continuous integration systems such as JUnit 4/5, MockK, and Espresso. Solid foundation in dynamic multi?threaded mobile apps. Self?starter who learns and adapts to new technologies. Works with minimal technical supervision and supplemental engineering support. Collaborates in a small, productive team as well as a larger organization. Writes efficient, reliable, and maintainable code for architectural improvements, user?facing features, or defect fixes. Troubleshoots and resolves issues across various platforms. Analyzes and optimises application code for performance. Assists other software engineers in understanding product architecture. Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives.
Education
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field.
The hiring range for this position in New York City, NY is $163,100 $218,700. The base pay offered will consider internal equity and may vary by geographic location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
