Position Summary: Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. Responsible for or assisting with delivering project objectives for assigned projects including scope, schedule, and budget.

Compensation for this position is $48.00 - $58.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

Conduct site investigations, inspections, and/or observations

Perform design computations

Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

Develop construction cost estimates

Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates

Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Develop Project Management plans for assigned projects

Develop and coordinate project scope

Establish project pricing and budgets

Create and maintain project schedules

Develop and maintain project specific quality plans

Monitors schedules, budgets, accounts receivable and manpower requirements and prepares invoices

Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

Participate in client meetings and presentations

Oversee and manage assigned staff working on project

Manage all technical resources on the project team

Coordinate and assist Section Heads, Office Managers, and Practice Leaders with marketing proposals

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

Perform other related duties as assigned

Required SkillsRequired Experience

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program with a concentration in structural engineering

Professional Engineer License

5-10 years’ experience in structural engineering related to bridges

Proficient in discipline specific design software

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Written and communication skills

Preferred Experience

Master’s degree in structural engineering

Experience working with AASHTO specifications and manuals

Experience working with projects completed in accordance with NYSDOT requirements, specifications, and manuals

Experience with AASHTOWare bridge design and rating software

Experience with MicroStation and other Bentley products related to bridge engineering

NBIS certification and/or bridge inspection experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
