Overview Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support system packaging design and thermal analysis. The role involves working on designs across the full product life cycle, contributing to critical national defense products.
Duties
Mechanical design including 3D modeling of chassis, covers, printed wiring board assemblies, heat sinks, and internal/external cabling.
Create detailed mechanical drawings (component, assembly, sub‑assembly) and parts lists.
Interface with vendors and fabricators to ensure deliverables meet mechanical requirements.
Design and analyze convection and direct liquid cooling solutions.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering or related discipline with at least 8 years of experience; or Master’s degree with 6 years; or PhD with 4 years.
Current experience with a 3D modeling tool.
Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for thermal problems.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary U.S. Government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with liquid‑cooled designs.
Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance.
Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys Icepak.
Experience taking multiple designs from concept through fabrication.
Experience designing for, maintaining, and operating 3D printers.
Compensation & Benefits Primary salary range: $124,900.00 – $187,300.00.
Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, retirement plan, paid holidays, and paid time off.
