Parks Maintenance Worker - Msdcp
This position is responsible for grounds maintenance duties; including maintaining City ball fields, maintaining vegetation and landscaped areas, and performing routine maintenance of assigned tools and equipment. The Moscow School District Community Playfields (MSDCP) Maintenance Worker is a senior-level position and performs the full range of maintenance duties in the assigned activity within athletics and parks. It operates the full range of equipment utilized in the trade. Incumbents may be assigned to one or more areas of City operations. Essential functions include preparing and maintaining ball fields, athletic fields, and surrounding landscape areas; preparing fields for athletic competition; dragging, repairing, preparing, and maintaining athletic fields; filling infield holes; screening the field; sweeping dugouts and cleaning bleacher areas. Mark with appropriate marking materials or equipment to delineate the area of play and restricting lines as prescribed and established by league and sport rules; grade and water infields. Maintain turf by aerating, slicing, and applying fertilizer; maintain flower beds and vegetation in business areas, park sites, and other City sites; inject elm trees according to established procedures. Additional duties include laying out grass areas for field events; maintaining and repairing grass, sod, and scraped areas; mowing and edging baseball infield and other areas as needed. Identify weeds or pests and determine appropriate chemicals for eradication; apply chemicals assuring proper health and safety precautions. Maintain detailed and accurate records of all chemical and pesticide applications according to, and in compliance with Idaho State and Federal regulations. Perform a variety of general groundskeeping duties including raking, weeding, pruning trees, fertilizing, transplanting trees and shrubs, and pruning hedges and shrubs. Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment and tools including tractors, over seeder, rototillers, aerators, sod cutters, fork lifts, pruners, clippers, line marking machines, snow plows, small hand and power tools, and trucks of various sizes. Inspect and repair sprinklers; install irrigation lines and drainage systems for fields. Train and provide work direction to assigned summer and part-time personnel. Perform minor and preventive maintenance and repair work on equipment and facilities; assist with other maintenance work as assigned including painting and mixing, pouring and finishing concrete; plowing and shoveling snow; paint benches and tables. Prepare monthly reports regarding safety and equipment; maintain records of equipment, and park inspections. Operate heavier ground equipment and irrigation systems as required. Apply pesticides as needed. Required education and experience include graduation from high school or GED course work and/or training in park, turf, or landscape maintenance and operations or related field. Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in a similar position. Required licenses and certifications include a valid Class A drivers license with air brake and manual endorsements within one (1) year. Moscow tr e worker certification within six (6) months. State Pesticide Applicators License with ornamental herbicide and insecticide endorsement within six (6) months. Approved turfgrass certificate or irrigation certificate within one (1) year. Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
