Foster Program Manager
— a people-centered leader who can grow our foster network, guide staff and volunteers, and ensure that every animal who needs a temporary home finds one. Your Mission As Foster Program Manager, you’ll oversee the daily operations and long-term growth of our Foster Program, supervising one direct report and partnering across departments to place animals in safe, nurturing homes. You will: Lead and mentor the Foster Coordinator to ensure smooth day-to-day operations Recruit, train, and retain foster families through creative outreach and community partnerships Build and maintain foster databases, reports, and performance metrics Create manuals, orientations, and ongoing training materials for foster caregivers Partner with medical and behavior teams to place animals in appropriate homes Track foster animal medical care, appointments, and records in
PetPoint Promote the foster program in partnership with our
Marketing team Organize recognition initiatives for foster families and volunteers Manage foster supplies, ordering, and inventory Develop new programs to support at-risk animal populations Represent HSHC’s mission with compassion, professionalism, and integrity Who You Are Experience & Skills Prior experience in animal shelter or rescue management (foster program experience strongly preferred) Strong animal-handling knowledge for dogs and cats; comfort with medical and neonatal care Proficiency with
Microsoft Office, PetPoint , and data/reporting systems Skilled at multitasking, prioritizing, and leading others in a high-volume environment Excellent written and verbal communication — able to connect with fosters, adopters, staff, and the public Organized, resourceful, and solutions-oriented — you don’t just identify problems; you fix them Education & Background Previous supervisory experience required Ability to evaluate animal wellness (basic exams, vaccines, medication administration) Euthanasia certification preferred (or willingness to obtain; HSHC will fund training) Personal Qualities Passionate about animal welfare and committed to HSHC’s
