Principal Security Engineer

Oracle Cloud (OCI) Hardware Team provides a family of hardware, firmware, tools, utilities, and connectors to manage, monitor and configure Oracle's GPU & x86 servers used in Oracle Cloud. CoreFW develops embedded software for scalable, high performance, elegantly-designed, and leading-edge GPU and X86 systems. We design and integrate state-of-the-art, secure, and easy to use system management features as a core component. The candidate will work as senior technical contributor responsible for design, implementation and test of OpenBMC BMC firmware on server platforms, with a focus on C/C++, Linux kernel development, and embedded systems. Key responsibilities include enabling OpenBMC on new hardware, collaborating with other teams, and working with manageability protocols like Redfish. A strong understanding of server hardware interfaces, board bring-up, and system-level debug and security best practices/tools are essential. Strong technical leadership, security awareness and interpersonal skills required. Responsibilities

Core responsibilities: Firmware development: Design, develop, and debug BMC firmware for next-generation server platforms. Hardware enablement: Bring up OpenBMC on new hardware, including kernel and driver development, and device tree work. System and software integration: Work with systems, hardware, architecture and security teams to design system-level solutions. Collaboration: Engage with internal teams and external upstream communities like the Linux and OpenBMC communities, as well as customers and third parties. Manageability features: Implement and optimize manageability features, including sensors, telemetry, and firmware updates. Security: Implement security features such as secure boot, firmware signing, and vulnerability management. Required Skills and Experience

Programming languages: Proficiency in C, C++, and scripting languages like Python or Bash is mandatory. OpenBMC and Linux: Deep, hands-on experience with OpenBMC, including Yocto/bitbake layers, systemd/D-Bus services, and phosphor components. Linux kernel: Strong experience in Linux kernel memory management, interrupts, and IOMMU is a must. System management protocols: Familiarity with protocols like IPMI (SDR, SEL, FRU) and Redfish. Server hardware: Expertise with server platform interfaces such as PCIe, I2C, SPI, PMBus, and Ethernet controllers. Board bring-up: Hands-on experience with board bring-up and device drivers is essential. Security: Experience with security concepts such as Secure Design Best Practices and assessments; Secure Code Review Process; Source Code Analysis; and Penetration Testing Preferred Qualifications

Security: Familiar with threat modeling, secure design reviews, security PEN-testing and hacker mentality. EDKII/BIOS: Familiarity with EDKII/BIOS collaboration and platform enablement. RAS (Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability): Experience with fault management, telemetry, and recovery. Test automation: Experience with CI/CD, unit/integration testing frameworks, and static analysis. Cloud-scale operations: Familiarity with cloud-scale operations and fleet management of BMC firmware. Other skills: Experience with GPU libraries like CUDA or ROCm is a plus. Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
