The role provides technical direction in the creation, delivery and integration of multiple and moderately complex software solutions. Translate business requirements into specific designs and/or participate in the design, evaluation and selection of IT solutions for software for a specific business process. Establish the current and future use of practice, metrics and methodologies to determine current and future solutions. Explore and evaluate new and approved technologies. Consult on the application of existing and new, approved technologies to develop solutions. Ensure the process of creation and delivery of design and solution in accordance with architectural direction. This is a work from home position within the US. As Lumen modernizes and expands its product portfolio, migrates systems to the cloud, and innovates for our customers - Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are consistently framed as critical enablers of digital transformation, automation, and customer experience. Connectivity to Lumen APIs requires a highly available, fault tolerant and performant API Gateway architecture with robust security controls, strong monitoring and alerting capabilities, and proactive support. The existing API Gateway architecture is undergoing a significant transformation, migrating API traffic from an on-premise implementation to a robust multi-cloud architecture. API-First is a core competency and requirement for all APIs at Lumen, requiring more attention to API standards, style guides and governance for a consistent digital experience. As a Senior Lead Software Developer in this position, you will be responsible for implementing and further enhancing Lumen's API strategy, accelerating the delivery of Lumen's new gateway infrastructure, driving automation, and evangelizing API-FIRST standards, styles and governance controls. You will be involved in the design, development, test and deployment of both front-end portal-oriented user interfaces and back-end API web services, as well as the management of an API Gateway platform that supports Lumen's API Enablement strategies. You will be part of a multi-national Agile Development Team responsible for translating business and architectural requirements into software design and delivery that enable end customers, business partners and internal employees to easily manage and utilize Lumen's API digital ecosystem. As a full-stack developer with cloud and DevSecOps experience, your skills will enable Lumen to accelerate and grow its API Platform and Transformation objectives. The main responsibilities include championing the methodology by demonstrating ownership of all aspects of the development lifecycle, supporting and owning all areas of responsibility, consistently mentoring others in the production of all artifacts, influencing the work of others in order to drive medium and large projects to successful completion through effective project management, customer interaction, and IT coordination, effectively estimating the time it will take to perform tasks and influence the team's work to be completed within those timeframes, mentoring others in the business processes implemented in the team's applications in order to provide resolution to support problems, and effectively categorizing support problems and responding with the appropriate level of urgency. Job specific responsibilities include assisting with the establishment of API-First standards and guidelines to bring consistency and quality controls to APIs hosted on the platform, designing and implementing mechanisms to automate the activities required to deploy and modify API proxy configuration rules, API product definitions and obtain API access credentials, front-end user interface design and development, leveraging Lumen portal frameworks and design systems for building consistent digital products and experiences, front-end work may focus on developing portals or other user interfaces that enable Lumen's API Developer community to view and/or manage their API service offerings, or provide Lumen's API Consumer community with intuitive interfaces to easily find API documentation, connect with API services and monitor their API consumption, back-end design and development of API microservices, following API-First best practices and standards, back-end work may focus on API design and development, providing services that allow other Lumen applications to integrate with our API Gateway platforms and/or providing other services that support API metrics, analytics and insight capabilities, contributing to overall software development lifecycle maturity, leveraging strong DevOps principles and practices, configuration, management and support of API Gateway platforms, on-call production support duties may be associated with this role, collaborating with and mentoring other employees to ensure quality product enhancements, and demonstrating a creative and innovative spirit towards continuous improvement and software delivery excellence. What we look for in a candidate includes strong skills and proven results in back-end development, familiarity with front-end development, experience designing and developing REST-based API services, knowledge in Spring oriented technologies and MV* frameworks, experience working with API Gateway vendor solutions, preferably Google Apigee, experience working with various platform infrastructure technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, VMware, etc, cloud based experience in AWS, Azure and/or GCP, proficient with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipeline development, experience with good engineering practices, ability to communicate technical designs and objectives clearly, and ability to break down and organize technical tasks, coach and mentor junior developers, and lead teammates in delivering quality results.
