HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II / DISTRICT 4 / DISTRICT MAINTENANCE / FT. PIERCE MAINTENANCE-ADMINISTRATION / FT. PIERCE MAINTENANCE FIELD CREWS This position will play a critical role in maintaining FDOT's infrastructure to an optimal level and for the safety of the traveling public by performing routine roadway maintenance activities. This position also contributes to emergency response and restoration efforts due to natural disasters throughout the State of Florida. Through our agency's learning management system, you have access to hundreds of computer-based training and instructor-led courses. DISTRICT 4 TREASURE COAST OPERATIONS 3601 OLEANDER AVENUE FT. PIERCE, FL 34982 Annual Salary Range: $36,651.68 - $47,431.59 Your specific responsibilities include operating a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs and dump truck. Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating. Cleans and washes equipment. Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Performs temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs. The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques Skills in operating a variety of hand and power tools Operate and perform pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles and/or mechanized equipment that they are operating Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic Stand for an extended period of time Operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment Other job-related requirements include responding to emergencies, being readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), obtaining certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintaining it, possessing a valid Class E driver's license and obtaining a Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtaining a valid Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position. Minimum qualifications include a Class E driver's license required at time of hire and a CDL Class B License Instructional Permit required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtaining a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
