Azure Cloud Engineer I - Hybrid Networking & Cloud Governance (NCDOT/NCDIT) Job ID: 779304 Client: State of North Carolina - NCDOT/NCDIT Web Systems Role: Azure Cloud Engineer I Location: Hybrid (NCDOT Century Center, 1020 Birch Ridge Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610) Contract Rate: $80/Hour - $90/Hour (DOE) Duration: 12 Months Job Type: Contract The Mission: Secure Cloud Infrastructure & Hybrid Connectivity NCDIT-T Web Systems is seeking a dedicated Azure Cloud Engineer I to join the team responsible for implementing and managing core Azure infrastructure. This role is crucial for ensuring the State's cloud environment is secure, scalable, and compliant, with a heavy emphasis on hybrid networking and governance. This is a local position in the Triangle area of North Carolina. The candidate must be able to come onsite on the first day for equipment collection and may be required to work up to 3 days per week in the office for meetings and collaboration. Primary Responsibilities You will work closely with development, architecture, and security teams to build and maintain the foundational elements of the Azure environment: Azure Foundation Setup: Configure and manage core Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and environments, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture. Security & Governance: Implement and manage Azure Policies, RBAC permissions, and resource tagging standards to enforce cloud governance. Enterprise Networking: Deploy, configure, and support complex Azure networking components, including VWAN, Azure Firewall, VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, and VPN/ExpressRoute for hybrid connectivity. Automation: Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) efforts using tools like Bicep, ARM templates, or PowerShell scripts. Operations & Troubleshooting: Monitor Azure environments, configure alerting, logging, and diagnostics. Be a primary resource for troubleshooting complex application and connectivity issues, particularly those spanning Azure and on-premise networks. Collaboration: Follow and reinforce cloud governance and security policies while collaborating with cross-functional teams on deployments and infrastructure changes. Required Basic Qualifications Azure Landing Zone Experience: Hands-on experience managing and deploying Azure landing zone architecture in enterprise-scale environments. Advanced Azure Networking: Strong Azure networking skills covering VWAN, ExpressRoute, VPN, Azure Firewall, and VNETs, with specific experience in hybrid networking setups. Security-First Design: Proven experience designing Azure environments with a private-by-default approach, implementing policies to prevent unauthorized public exposure. Governance Tools: Familiarity with implementing and managing core Azure governance features, including Azure Policies, RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), and resource tagging strategies. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are essential for this high-interaction role.
