The Research Nurse Specialist performs a variety of technical and administrative duties concerning specific clinical research studies. Job Responsibilities
Ensures optimal quality of medical care for patients participating in studies; uses ethical conduct as established for healthcare personnel; assists in the creation of educational aides and manuals as reference frameworks for patients and staff as necessary. Participates in continuing education programs. Educates nursing staff on drug protocols. Assists with updating policies and procedures. Keeps abreast of new treatment methods, including various venous access devices. Arranges follow-up visits with patients to assess care quality; applies physical and psychological assessments to determine effects of study drugs; implements interventions for adverse patient responses. Assesses patient eligibility for investigational studies; reviews patient history; records pre-study lab data; secures baseline laboratory blood work; and arranges necessary scans. Reviews informed consent with patients; coordinates follow-up tests; assists physicians in preparing IRB documents; maintains communication with sponsoring agencies and IRB. Ensures adherence to study protocols; monitors study drugs; manages pharmacokinetic studies; and oversees specimen processing, storage, and shipping. Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Experience
Approximately 2 years of related clinical experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills. Licenses and Certifications
Current NY State Registered Nurse License & Registration BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association Infection Control Certificate Working Conditions/Physical Demands
