Renewables Asset Manager, Commercial Strategy - Energy Storage

FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) This opportunity is with an industry-leading renewable energy venture and Independent Power Producer (IPP) backed by private equity. The company specializes in developing and executing utility-scale energy storage projects. Having accumulated over 9GW of projects in a short period, they are currently expanding rapidly. Team and Focus:

The Asset Management Division is relatively new and growing, focusing on energy storage/battery storage asset management, operations & maintenance (O&M), energy trading strategies, and real-time operations. Role Overview:

The Energy Storage Asset Manager will lead commercial asset management and technical engineering optimization for renewable energy battery storage assets across the U.S., supporting a nationwide utility-scale renewable portfolio. The role also involves pioneering the development and use of a proprietary battery storage management platform. Responsibilities: Manage daily operations of utility-scale battery storage assets across ISO/RTO regions to ensure optimal performance post-COD. Review and advise on commercial agreements such as PPAs, O&M, interconnection, leases, project finance, and entity structures. Lead asset-based accounting initiatives, collaborating with the accounting team on budgets. Provide technical expertise on design, contractual terms, warranties, and risk assessments to project teams. Offer commercial insights on P&Ls, energy deal structures, and cash management to project teams. Plan outages, switching, and maintenance activities to minimize downtime. Oversee compliance with NERC/FERC and ISO/RTO requirements, managing third-party service providers.

Qualifications:

Experience in utility-scale renewable asset or portfolio management, with a strong emphasis on commercial asset management. An engineering background is a plus. Proven success in asset management, including financial performance optimization, O&M management, and energy platform experience (renewables, solar, wind, BESS, etc.). Strong background in P&Ls, budgeting, energy deal structures, PPAs, and cash management. Experience managing third-party O&M contractors and service providers. Knowledge of NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO compliance, outage management, and switching procedures. Familiarity with SCADA systems and plant control systems. Ability to review and understand commercial agreements is highly advantageous. Ideal candidates may have held roles such as Sr. Portfolio Manager, Asset Manager, Asset Management Lead, or related positions in renewable or clean energy companies.
