Wage Landscape Worker
James Madison University is seeking Wage (part-time) Landscape Workers. This is a great opportunity to join an organization that is continuously growing! This is your chance to gain Landscape-specific certifications, such as the Pesticide Registered Technician license, build on your landscaping skills, and train on a variety of landscaping equipment! This is a weekday, year-round position, with a day shift schedule. Overtime is required for special events and inclement weather. Duties and Responsibilities: General landscape maintenance to include any of the following: weed-eating; mowing; raking; weeding; sodding; trimming; edging; mulching; leaf disposal; irrigating; pruning; grading; snow and ice removal; and spraying. Some positions require planting and maintenance of flowers, trees, and shrubs. Duties also include performing trash cleanup and litter removal. Maintenance of parking lots and roads by patching potholes and assisting in the preparation of university areas for special events. Duties may include operating utility vehicles. Qualifications: Required: Candidates should possess working knowledge of general landscape maintenance. Candidates must be able to use manual and power tools, operate motor vehicles, tractors, trucks, and various types of landscape equipment such as mowers, weed-eaters, backpack blowers, chainsaws, and edgers. Candidates must also be able to follow verbal instructions, lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds with or without an accommodation, and do physically demanding work for extended periods of time. Some positions may require the successful candidate to be at least 19 years old and have possessed a valid driver's license for at least a total of 24 months at the time of hire. Additional Considerations: Knowledge of plants, shrubs, and flowers would be helpful. This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
