Job Description Overview
The Department 460 Quonset Point Project Engineering team is seeking highly motivated candidates to support first-of-a-kind construction activities of the VIRGINIA Class, specifically focused on the VIRGINIA Payload Module.
D460QP is responsible for the resolution of design issues, trouble-shooting of construction problems, technical support for manufacturing operations, verification and certification of as-built dimensions and configurations, and implementation of process improvements. The department's main goal is to provide timely, high quality engineering support for all manufacturing, steel fabrication, and outfitting activities at the Quonset Point facility. In addition, engineers in D460QP are exposed to various aspects of submarine design and construction which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer.
The goal of the Project Engineering team is to provide forward-deployed, rapid support of Operations and Planning, assisting in resolution of urgent construction issues beyond the typical D460QP Deckplate Engineering role.
Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for providing on-site support for VIRGINIA Class products: establishing a proactive daily presence in production areas, building relationships with Operations customers, attending Operations agenda meetings, assisting with resolution of work package issues, assessing build status relative to schedule, supporting construction readiness and hot wash efforts, and coordinating Engineering support for schedule-critical evolutions.
Qualifications
Required:
\n Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
\n
0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
\n
Previous experience with the design, development, construction, and/or operation of submarine systems, component, or structures.
\n
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance.
\n
\n

\n Experience with troubleshooting, and technical problem solving.
\n
Experience with structural design, evaluation, and/or construction.
\n
Experience with providing deck-plate engineering construction support.
\n
Experience with task or project management.
\n
Knowledge of Teamcenter and Electronic Desktop applications.
\n
Knowledge of VPM arrangement.
\n
Skills
\n Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, & Word.
\n
Candidate must be able to take initiative and work independently.
\n
Candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
\n
Candidate must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
\n
This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces.
