Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: The SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Process Engineer job involves developing, optimizing, and maintaining the processes for assembling electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs).Key responsibilities include troubleshooting issues, improving efficiency and yield, ensuring quality control, and managing SMT equipment.This role bridges the gap between design, production, and quality assurance to ensure smooth and high-quality PCB assembly operations.

Core responsibilities

Process development and optimization:Develop, implement, and maintain SMT processes, including solder paste printing, component placement, and reflow soldering.Optimize machine setup and programming sequences for maximum efficiency.

Troubleshooting and problem-solving:Address daily technical challenges in production, diagnose and resolve process abnormalities, and implement solutions to improve yield and reduce defects.

Quality control:Ensure products meet quality standards by inspecting assemblies and implementing quality control methodologies like Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

Equipment maintenance:Perform preventative maintenance on SMT equipment to ensure reliable operation.

Documentation:Create and maintain process documentation, such as process sheets, FMEAs, and maintenance records.

Continuous improvement:Use methodologies like Lean/Six Sigma to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Collaboration:Work with design, production, quality, and external teams to support new product development and ensure all processes meet manufacturing and regulatory requirements.

Key skills and knowledge

Technical expertise:Deep understanding of SMT equipment, processes, and global technologies.

Software proficiency:Experience with simulation, design, and data analysis software to interpret data and create reports.

Analytical skills:Ability to analyze production data, identify root causes of problems, and make data-driven decisions.

Quality systems knowledge:Familiarity with quality management systems, such as ISO 13485 and GMP, as applicable.

Communication:Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with various teams.

Problem-solving:Creative and innovative problem-solving skills to tackle complex issues.
