General Summary:
The Engineering Technician I is responsible for activities assigned by the Plant Engineering Manager to support construction and other projects of the Plant & Operations Department.
Essential Job Functions:
Designs new copper, coax and fiber facilities, which includes staking in the field with the use of a GPS; drawing staking sheets with the computer mapping system. Researches and locates appropriate parties for the procurement of easements as well as public rights-of-way. Deals with U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, State Lands, NMDOT, county agencies, power companies, BNSF Railway Company, other agencies, land owners and customers to obtain right-of-way easements. Insures each project built is in compliance with stipulations in permits and easements acquired from various agencies and private land owners. Operates computer mapping system with minimal supervision. Maintains knowledge of RUS standards and specifications. Performs as an inspector, when needed; these duties includes, working closely with Plant Engineering Manager to oversee contractor's activities on a daily basis; verifying the project is being built to RUS specifications; insures compliance with stipulations in permits and easements acquired from various agencies and private land owners; reads staking sheets, keeps a daily inspector diary, tabulating daily unit; submit weekly reports to Plant Engineering Manager; red-lining staking sheets with as-built units and running line; submits final reports to Plant Engineering Manager. Assists in training activities conducted in the Plant Engineering Department. Maintains, updates, and assures accuracy of all records, electronic and paper. As requested, participates in the development of department objectives and procedures for engineering activities. Updates New Mexico One Call database when needed. Assigns and keep work orders for PVT and its subsidiaries' projects; closes out work orders upon job completion; works closely with Construction, Service and Finance departments to insure accuracy. Provides data maintained by the Engineering Department to all departments as requested. Performs work with the awareness of all potential hazards; uses safety equipment and utilizes safety practices; attends and participates in all designated safety and training meetings; abides by the company's safety manual. Complies with all RUS specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations and company policies and procedures. Places a premium on customer satisfaction; makes every attempt to perpetuate PVT and its subsidiaries positive image in all customer related service activities. Completes other activities, reports, research, analysis, etc. as assigned by the Engineering Manager. Other Responsibilities:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of telecommunications industry and CATV standards, regulations and rules; familiarity with telecommunications and CATV terminology, materials and equipment; proficient in using Microsoft Office programs - Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint; good writing skills are required; basic knowledge of land descriptions and Geographic Information System (GIS) is recommended; basic knowledge of AutoCAD software is preferred. Cooperate with the Plant and Operations department and all other departments as a productive team member.
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or GED. Associates degree or higher in Engineering, Telecommunications, Technology or related field.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid New Mexico state driver's license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company's insurance policy.

The normal noise level is quiet in the office environment and may be moderate to loud in outside conditions.
