Purpose To outline essential job duties, qualification requirements and working conditions for the position of Maintenance Worker II - Streets.

Essential Job Duties

Responsible for maintenance of City streets and rights-of-way in a safe and efficient manner while performing duties ranging from laboring activities requiring extended physical exertion to semi-skilled and skilled tasks requiring manipulative skills. Operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment, hand and power tools including but not limited to dump truck, sweepers, paint striper, snow plow, salt brine facility, water truck, crane truck, aerial bucket truck, road grader, rollers, pick-up truck, backhoe, loader, excavator, dozer, paver, crack sealer, tack tank distributor, concrete saw, power cutoff saw, jack hammer, torque wrench, compactor, gas powered water pump, air compressor, flusher, welder, cutting torch, hand torch and field instruments such as transit and laser levels. Duties vary in frequency depending upon the season, maintenance program, climatic conditions and City or customer needs. Performs street and parking lot repairs including shoveling, raking and compacting an asphalt concrete pavement mix; preparation of utility cuts and potholes for placement of asphalt; and application of temporary cold mix patches, skin patches and other asphalt surface repairs. Performs curb, gutter and sidewalk repairs including concrete demolition, restoration and reconstruction. Controls snow and ice by plowing, sanding and applying liquid or solid deicer materials. Installs and replaces street signs. Paints crosswalks, curbs and traffic flow indicators. Performs vegetation control. Performs excellent internal and external customer service. Interacts effectively with the public to answer questions, provide assistance and direction. Works closely and collaboratively with contractors and engineers on street improvement projects. Performs regularly scheduled maintenance tasks as assigned. Controls traffic around work sites including flagging and assembly and set up of traffic control devices such as barricades, cones and flag stands. Repairs stormwater and sewer manholes including removal and replacement of lids and rings. Installs catch basins and associated piping. Monitors and maintains an organized, clean and safe work environment. Performs general clean up tasks throughout shift. Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment as required. Ensures compliance with instructions, policies, specifications, procedures and legal requirements. Documents, and maintains complete and concise records of, maintenance and repairs. Other job functions:

Serves on rotating standby or "on-call" duty 24-hours per day for seven days per week. Assists with training of other less experienced employees, as assigned. Performs other duties as needed or directed. Qualification Requirements

High School Diploma or GED. Two years of full-time equivalent experience performing street maintenance techniques including operating and using related equipment and materials. Current WA CDL Class A Driver License (tanker endorsement/air brake restriction removed). Must obtain a Washington State Flagging Card and First Aid/CPR Certification within six months of hire and maintain throughout employment. Washington State Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) and International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) Sign and Pavement Marking Level I Certifications desired. Washington State Public Pesticide Applicator License desired. Requires knowledge of:

Asphalt concrete pavement placement and repair. Portland cement concrete construction and finishing. Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and tools. Snow and ice control operations. Work is performed in outdoor settings for extended periods, in very dirty environments in all weather conditions and seasonal temperature ranges. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Noise levels range from quiet to very loud requiring ear protection. Requires the ability to:

Use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety policies, practices and procedures. Work outdoors for extended periods of time under unfavorable weather conditions. Have flexibility in working hours and work night shift as needed. Work in close quarters and confined spaces. Reach with hands and arms. Sit, stand, walk, bend over, twist at waist, kneel, crouch or crawl, ambulate up and down ladders and stairs. Maintain good eye sight required for close and distant vision and adjusting focus. Have good hand to eye coordination and finger dexterity to handle, feel and/or operate objects, tools and equipment. Talk and hear with background noise. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. At its sole discretion, the City of Wenatchee may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.

Vacation leave will be earned at a rate of 10-hours per month and will be available for use upon successful completion of the initial review period. Sick leave will be earned at a rate of 8-hours per month. Annual Paid Holidays (1st year prorate): Eleven 8-hour designated holidays (11th holiday for AFSCME positions under MOU through 2025) + one 8-hour floating holiday. Medical/Dental/Vision plans. We have two health plans to choose from: 1) High Deductible Health Plan (the City pays 100% of the employee premium); or 2) $250 deductible plan (the City pays 90% of the employee premium). The High Deductible Plan includes a City contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA) in the amount of $125/month for the employee or $250/month for the employee with dependents. The City pays 75% of dependent premiums under either plan. Membership in the WA State Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). Optional participation in a Section 457 Deferred Comp Plan with a City match up to 2% of base pay. $25,000 basic life/$25,000 AD&D insurance policy with premiums paid by the City on the employee's behalf.
