Food Service Site Supervisor

7:00 am- 2:30 pm
Scope of Responsibilities
The Site Supervisor has the overall responsibility of assisting with the administration of the
National School Lunch Program, the National School Breakfast Program and the After School Snack
Program at a satellite elementary school. Examples of job responsibilities may include:
retherming/warming breakfast and lunch components, supervising employees, completing and
implementing cleaning schedules, completing production records, preparing food and supply orders,
setting up meal components and ala carte items, collecting money from school meals, preparing bank
deposits, maintaining accurate student account balances, ensuring compliance with U.S.D.A., M.D.E.,
District and health department rules and establishing and maintaining high standards in the areas
of food quality and student and staff service.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Implements a standardized menu by preparing food and supply orders in the proper quantities.
2. Adheres to sanitation and safety practices, which comply with State, County, and District
requirements and codes, which includes, but is not limited to the receiving, storing, handling,
preparing and serving of food products, and the general cleaning and sanitizing of the kitchen,
food service equipment supplies and utensils.
3. Assists with the planning of schedules and work assignments, as well as training, cross training
and supervising the Assistant Servers.
4. Ensuring compliance of the National School Lunch, Breakfast and After School Snack Programs by
adhering to all U.S.D.A., Michigan Department of Education, District and health department rules
and regulations.
5. Communicates to the Director of Food Services concerns regarding policies and/or procedures, as
well as any personnel matters.
6. Promotes student and staff satisfaction through merchandising meals in an attractive manner and
addressing customer complaints and suggestions in a timely and positive manner.
7. Completes meal preparation of the various components and ala carte items for service during the
breakfast and lunch periods.
8. Collects money from students, prepares bank deposits, accurately maintains student account
balances and communicates with parents, the Principal and the Director of Food Services
regarding monies owed.
9. Ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance/documentation of holding and
serving temperatures.
10. Adheres to prescribed safety procedures. This includes, but may not be limited to checking work
areas for safety hazards, removing safety hazards from work areas, reporting safety hazards to the
Director of Food Services or the Building Principal, administering emergency first aid and
completing accident reports.
11. Completes the required Food Service Department reports and forms in a timely manner.
12. Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or the
Director of Food Services.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must have a High School Diploma or GED,and provide upon Onboarding process.
2. Must have the ability to read, write, follow verbal and written instructions and perform a
variety of mathematical functions. Computer knowledge is also desirable.
3. Must have strong knowledge of safety and sanitation, as it relates to food service operations.
4. Must have a minimum of two years experience in the field of school food service. A food
preparation background and supervisory experience is also desirable.
5. Must complete the Food Service Basics, Sanitation and Safety and Communications classes through
the State-Wide Training Program offered by the Michigan School Food Service Association and the
Michigan Department of Education, within a two year period of time. Must also be certified as the
"Person in Charge" in accordance with health department codes.
6. Must be able to work under pressure and tolerate standing (frequent), bending (occasional),
squatting (occasional), reaching (occasional) and lifting (frequent-minimum five to twenty pounds,
occasional-twenty to forty pounds), with, or without ADA accommodation.
7. Must have sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within the production and service time
frames.
8. Must display a reliable attendance and promptness pattern.
9. Must be neat and clean. Must have high standards for personal hygiene.
10. Must have the ability to interact with students, co-workers, teachers and administrators in a
positive manner and have the ability to discuss and/or resolve problems.
