Job Description: The Judicial Branch is a state-funded Branch of Government that offers medical/dental/vision, $20,000 free basic life insurance, state-matched 156% retirement plan, 13 paid holidays, earned paid vacation and sick leave, and more.

This classification level is responsible for assisting the Judicial District Chief Probation Officer in administrative oversight for program case management services, development and management of the budget, and purchasing and accounting functions. Responsibilities may include developing and managing district training, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and reviewing complex high-risk cases to audit processes and practices.

Job Duties

1. Manages and coordinates assigned district probation staff to include: planning, prioritizing, and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.

2. Assists the Chief Probation Officer in the development of policies and procedures for the probation department; participates in the development and implementation of strategic agenda, long range planning and program evaluation.

3. Recommends and oversees the implementation of operating policies and procedures, audits and monitors compliance for district probation activities.

4. Participates in the design, acquisition, and implementation of automation for the probation department.

5. Prepares a variety of reports related to department performance, goals, budget, investigations, personnel, crime statistics, and/or other related issues.

6. Evaluates lower-level staff case plans and intervention strategies; ensures a standard of quality and compliance in approved strategies; provides guidance to lower-level staff regarding challenging or unique cases.

7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related fields AND

1 year of supervisory, or management experience; or

an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

Knowledge:

Managerial principles. Principles, practices and procedures of probation services and administration. Federal, State and local laws, regulations, and procedures. Rules, regulations and procedures of the Probation department. Probations techniques and procedures. Crisis and emergency management principles and practices. Grant administration and preparation. Report writing. Skills:

Monitoring and evaluating subordinates. Delegating and prioritizing work. Managing small to large district probation staff. Preparing, reviewing, and approving reports and statistical information and data. Preparing and administering grants. Handling stressful situations. Analyzing, recommending, and implementing changes in policies and procedures. Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Using computers and related software applications. Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements

Incumbents may be subjected to environmental threats, odors, dusts, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and travel.

Light Work:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work
