BEL GEO is hiring motivated, interns for our Construction Material Testing (CMT) department. As a QC/QA Field Technician, you'll conduct quality control and assurance tests on construction materials like soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates. This role ensures all work meets project specifications and industry standards.
The work is mostly outdoors on active construction sites, with a mix of fieldwork (75%) and lab/office duties (25%). We provide a month of training and mentorship before you begin independent work.
This internship is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the geotech field. With additional experience and education, you could advance to a Senior Field Technician or Project Engineer. This role offers the possibility of a full-time job after the internship ends.
Position Requirements
RESPONSIBILITES: Perform construction material testing and inspections on projects for various clients, including those in commercial development, DOT, municipalities, and private contractors. Conduct field sampling and QC/QA testing on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete according to industry procedures. Monitor and document concrete placement, slump, air content, and temperature, as well as prepare, cure, and test concrete specimens. Conduct inspections for footings, floor slabs, subgrades, and proof rolls to ensure compliance with project specifications. Conduct lab tests on materials, including Proctors, liquid limits, plastic limits, and grain size analysis. Maintain precise field logs and test reports. Properly maintain, calibrate, and transport testing equipment. Complete necessary paperwork and timesheets to document daily activities. QUALIFICATIONS:
Pursing a degree program in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, geology, construction, or a related field. Strong interest in the geotech field and construction material testing. Valid Driver's License, insurance and reliable vehicle is a must Ability to work a flexible schedule, with a preference for students who can work during the fall and winter. Willingness to learn and be trained by experienced professionals. Exceptional communication, organization, and documentation skills Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work outside in various weather conditions, and stand or walk for long periods. Overtime, evenings, and weekends may be necessary depending on project needs.
Pay: Starting at $17/hour
