Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Accounting Specialist will work independently to assist the Finance Department with tasks primarily related to accounting and fixed asset management. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Verify daily cash collections and prepare bank deposit. Upload, verify, and update daily activity files from sub ledgers into the general ledger. Create and record journal entries as needed including standard recurring entries, line item transfers, and budget amendments. Input requisitions. Complete returned item process. Complete stale date check process, including quarterly report. Reconcile various liability accounts. Assist with Seized Funds process. Assist with calculation, reconciliation and submission of sales and hotel/motel tax payable to State Comptroller monthly. Prepare and/or assist with reconciliations as assigned. Research and compile statistics for annual audit. Assist with petty cash and confidential funds audits. Serve as records management coordinator for department. Assist with budget preparation, fiscal year end closing, and annual audit. Assist other accounting staff and Utility Billing department as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Abilities:

Education, Certification and Experience Required: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent with at least two years of related experience in Finance or Accounting. Possession of an Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field is preferred. Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver's License. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices Attention to detail Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word Strong computer skills Previous experience with Incode preferred Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to perform basic math calculations Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:

Computer and related software, printer, telephone, postage machine, and copier.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Duties are generally performed in an office setting. Some light work requiring occasional lifting objects up to 30 pounds to move objects. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Work may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling. Coverage for spouse and dependent children is also available for purchase. Terms apply. Voluntary AD&D: The employee may elect up to ten times their base annual salary with a maximum of $500,000. Terms apply. Voluntary Short-Term Disability: The employee may elect up to 60% of their base weekly salary with a maximum weekly benefit of $1,000. Terms apply. Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): This mandatory retirement plan requires each employee to contribute 7% of their gross salary to the plan and the City matches contributions 2 to 1. An employee becomes eligible to retire with 20 years of service or with five years of service at a minimum of age 60. Optional Deferred Compensation: The employee may contribute to a 457 plan through Mission Square Retirement. Social Security: Current rate is 6.2% for both employee and employer Medicare: Current rate is 1.45% for both employee and employer. Vacation - 12 days annually during first five years of employment (accrued monthly) Sick Leave - 12 days per calendar year (accrued monthly) Holidays - 14 holidays plus two floating day
