Job Summary/Basic Function
The HVAC-R Technician will be involved in a wide variety of maintenance, repair, installation and service activities related to the mechanical systems of Shepherd University. Primary responsibilities include the maintenance and repair activities of HVAC-R systems. Developing and maintaining equipment repair and preventive maintenance schedules; maintaining HVAC operations efficiency through monitoring and calibration of controlling equipment and directing and monitoring repair activities of vendors supplying HVAC services to the university.
Minimum Qualifications
Job requires broad trade knowledge or specific technical or business knowledge received from a formal registered apprentice or vocational training program or obtained through an associates degree or over 18 months and up to 3 years beyond high school. Over two years of experience.

Job Duties
Description of Job Duties
Performs maintenance, repair, and replacement of air-moving, heating, cooling, humidification and filtering equipment and systems such as fans, heat pumps, fan coil units, rooftop package air conditioning units, humidistat, pressure and volume controls. Systems include reciprocating and centrifugal type and include related electrical motors and their respective controls, including calibration of equipment, gauges and controls, handling of refrigerant and charging systems.
Providing over site and direction to contract vendors engaged in HVAC repairs. Monitoring the EMS and mechanical control systems for optimal operating efficiency. Adjusts systems control parameters as required and responds to systems failures as determined.
Performs installation or modification work on heating and cooling systems and controls, including planning the work; estimating and arranging the materials, supplies and equipment required; and coordination with other trades.
Maintaining, repairing, and replacing hot water, condenser and chilled water systems, including pumps, control valves, coils, heat exchangers, cooling towers and related controls. Maintains and repairs fume hoods. Maintains repairs and replaces low-pressure boilers used for heating and cooling of air and their combustion and control systems.
Maintaining an inventory of replacement parts and supplies to support repair and maintenance of HVAC-R systems.
Maintaining assigned tools, vehicles and equipment.
Rotates in on the On-Call Trades Schedule responding to emergency and urgent work requests in the off schedule hours. Holds on-call phone and remains ready to respond to requests.
Assists in snow clearing operations with other essential employees.
Other duties as assigned.
