Job Summary

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems across all district facilities. The primary goal is to ensure a safe, comfortable, and productive learning environment for students and staff while maximizing energy efficiency and adhering to all applicable safety standards and building codes. This position requires strong technical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair: Perform skilled maintenance and repair on all HVAC equipment, including air conditioning units, heating systems, boilers, chillers, and associated components. Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions using a variety of diagnostic tools and electrical testing equipment. Repair or replace defective parts such as compressors, motors, thermostats, controls, switches, and wiring. Conduct seasonal system overhauls and transitions (e.g., from heating to cooling mode). Perform preventative maintenance, including changing filters, cleaning coils, lubricating parts, and checking refrigerant levels. Installation: Install new HVAC systems and components, including ductwork, piping, and electrical wiring, in accordance with blueprints, schematics, and code specifications. Reconfigure and expand existing HVAC systems as needed for facility renovations or new additions. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local building codes and safety regulations. Maintain accurate records of coolant dispensing and recovery to meet federal EPA requirements. Ensure all work areas are clean and safe, and promptly report any unsafe conditions. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Administrative & Operational: Receive and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner. Estimate time, labor, and materials costs for projects and repairs. Maintain a detailed log of tasks performed, materials used, and time spent. Manage and maintain an inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Respond to emergency service calls as needed, which may require working irregular hours. Qualifications

Experience:

A minimum of (3) years of verifiable experience as an HVAC technician, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting. Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of an accredited HVAC training program or an apprenticeship is highly preferred. Certifications & Licenses: EPA Section 608 Universal Certification is required. Valid Driver's License. Skills: Strong knowledge of HVAC theory and standard industry practices. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical and electrical issues. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Skilled in using a variety of hand and power tools, as well as specialized diagnostic equipment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with school staff and administrators. Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and the employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, noise, dust, and toxic chemicals. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Work may be performed on rooftops, in tight or enclosed spaces, and on ladders or scaffold. Assists other trades personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Performs other functions as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.
