The Key Account Director for Evonik's Health Care Business Line (Custom Solutions BU) is responsible for managing and expanding key customer relationships across pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and medical device markets in North America. The role focuses on driving revenue growth through the sale of CDMO services, exclusive drug delivery technologies, and polymer-based solutions (e.g., EUDRAGIT®, RESOMER®). The position plays a strategic role in developing new business opportunities, managing alliances, and supporting global account initiatives to expand Evonik's footprint in oral and injectable drug delivery systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and grow revenue and contribution margin from assigned and new accounts within the CDMO and drug delivery services portfolio. Develop, negotiate, and execute contracts including confidentiality, feasibility, master service, supply, and quality agreements. Build and maintain strong customer relationships, acting as the primary liaison for key accounts and alliance partnerships. Prepare proposals, offers, and change orders in collaboration with internal technical and project management teams. Identify and close new business opportunities across oral and injectable drug delivery, medical device, and cell culture markets. Participate in and contribute to global key account teams, ensuring alignment with strategic account objectives. Maintain accurate records in CRM, including forecasting, visit reports, and opportunity tracking. Represent Evonik at industry conferences, tradeshows, and regional or global business meetings. Support qualification and prioritization of CDMO project opportunities across Evonik sites (Vancouver Labs™, Birmingham Labs™, etc.). Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams (supply chain, quality, regulatory, innovation, etc.) to deliver customer-focused solutions. Implement regional sales and marketing strategies consistent with business line goals. Ensure high levels of communication and alignment with global and technical colleagues. REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline); advanced degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry in sales, business development, or technical roles. Proven key account management experience within CDMO or drug delivery sectors. Understanding of drug delivery systems, solubility enhancement, and modified/sustained release formulations preferred. Strong relationship-building, networking, and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to manage complex customer portfolios and multiple concurrent projects. Excellent contract negotiation experience (confidentiality, supply, service, and quality agreements). Strong organizational and self-management skills; capable of working independently and cross-functionally. Familiarity with CRM tools and structured reporting/forecasting practices. Ability to travel and engage regularly with North American and global accounts. Collaborative mindset with capacity to coordinate across global teams and technical stakeholders. Summary Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. (Specific rate to be determined, but not limited to, geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
Pay Range:
$108,500-$197,000 per year
