Mechanical Technician
to support
Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector
in
Redondo Beach, CA . This
1-year contract-to-hire
role involves hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical components for advanced aerospace and space flight hardware.
The ideal candidate will bring experience with
precision mechanical assembly, bonding operations, and flight hardware handling
in high-bay or cleanroom environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Handle
delicate flight hardware
with proper ESD and contamination control practices Perform
mechanical assembly
using space flight drawings and process documents Execute
bonding operations
with adhesives for thermal, electrical, and mechanical connections on complex assemblies Set up and test
prototype units and subassemblies
under operational conditions Collaborate with engineers, designers, and stakeholders to support producibility improvements Provide feedback to manufacturing engineers on design/process enhancements Perform tasks such as
bonding, drilling, torquing, and hardware installation
following process requirements Work with
calibrated tools and shelf-life materials
to ensure accuracy and compliance Operate in
high-bay and cleanroom environments
to assemble flight hardware Report hardware status daily to floor supervisor or technical coordinator Use
MS Office Suite
and other digital tools for communication and reporting Support off-hours/weekend work and travel as required Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician 3:
High School Diploma or equivalent + 4 years related experience Mechanical Technician 4:
High School Diploma or equivalent + 6 years related experience Knowledge and experience with
mechanical assembly and operations
using blueprints, drawings, or written instructions Proficiency with
MS Office tools Demonstrated ability to execute procedures accurately Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Must be able to obtain
In-Scope SCI clearance access Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in
mechanical manufacturing or integration & test Experience working on
space flight hardware Active
In-Scope SCI clearance
(or ability to obtain one) Experience with
complex composite flight hardware Prior work in cleanroom or contamination-controlled environments
