OPEN & PROMOTION POSITION: Lead Custodian II

SITE: Larrea Middle School DAYS: 261 HOURS: 8 hrs/day (12:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) SALARY: Range 28 ($26.01 - $31.63/hr)

Filing deadline is Wednesday, November 19, 2025, @ 4:00 p.m., or until 100 applications are received. Whichever comes first. Under the direction of a site administrator or classified supervisor, clean classrooms, offices and other District site facilities. Perform minor repair and maintenance and assure security of school during assigned work hours; coordinate work schedules and train and provide work direction to assigned custodial staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Lead Custodian II performs custodial work and provides training and lead direction to assigned custodians during the evening shift at the High School, and the day shift at Middle School Site, and Alternative Education Center. Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented with sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and three years increasingly responsible custodial experience. Essential Duties

Maintain classrooms, offices, buildings and other school facilities in a clean an orderly condition; sweep, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms and other work areas; spot clean and shampoo carpets. Provide work direction to assigned school custodial staff; coordinate work schedules and assign duties; train custodians in proper cleaning methods and proper use of equipment and supplies; assist with preparation of custodian evaluations and assist with discipline as needed; perform duties of the supervisor in the absence of the supervisor at the high school. Demonstrate proper use of equipment, tools, chemicals and other supplies to custodial staff; demonstrate and train in proper and safe methods and techniques of equipment and chemical use. Assure security of the school during assigned hours; lock gates, doors and windows; turn off lights when room is not in use; inspect facilities for safety and fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required; notify security agencies regarding security and vandalism issues. Wash windows, walls, tables, desks and benches; polish metal work; clean chalkboards; dust and clean furniture and woodwork. Empty and clean the waste receptacles; refill dispensers. Clean, scrub and disinfect student and staff restrooms; wash windows, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean drinking fountains. Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment and setting up for meetings and special events. Communicate with custodial staff regarding safe mixtures and applications of chemicals used. Perform minor maintenance and non-technical repairs on furniture, buildings and grounds including replacing lights; report other maintenance and repair needs as appropriate. Remove graffiti by using appropriate solution or painting over words and designs. Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, scrubber, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary. Prepare requisitions for custodial and other related materials and supplies; submit to appropriate personnel for approval and signature according to established procedures; assist in the maintenance of custodial inventory levels and other related records. Confer with supervisor to receive special work assignments or determine custodial needs. Raise or lower flags; lock and unlock doors and gates; report safety, sanitary and fire hazards as appropriate. Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings. Participate in thorough cleaning and restoration of the school plant during school vacations. Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities / Working Conditions

KNOWLEDGE OF : Principles of training and providing work direction. Oral and written communication skills. Requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, chalkboards, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures. Cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work. Safety practices and work methods. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Proper lifting techniques.

ABILITY TO : Clean classrooms, offices and other District facilities at the school during the assigned shift. Perform minor repair and maintenance and assure security of the School. Train and provide work direction to assigned custodial staff. Learn, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Maintain school classrooms, offices and other school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Use common cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and efficient manner. Operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, power blower and small power and hand tools. Perform minor repairs as assigned. Observe and report needed maintenance and repair. Meet schedules and time lines. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Perform heavy physical labor. Work cooperatively with others.
