The Finance Director - Associate Athletic Director is the chief financial strategist for Phoenix Athletics, partnering with the Director of Athletics and campus leadership to ensure our resources are aligned with our mission and ambitions. This role is more than managing numbers - it's about driving smart, strategic investments that give our student-athletes the facilities, programs, and support they need to excel. We're seeking an accomplished financial leader with a track record of managing large, complex budgets and transforming detailed financial data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders. This includes expertise in financial scenario planning, capital planning, monthly forecast updates, and guiding informed decision-making - through the use of analytics - at every level of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have advanced Excel skills, demonstrated expertise in building and leveraging Tableau or similar executive/summary dashboards, and exceptional communication and relationship building abilities. They will bring a mindset focused on efficiency, automation, and innovative tools - including the use of AI - along with experience in contract negotiation, contract management, and oversight of business operations such as ticketing and concessions.
This is a high-intensity role with elevated expectations, requiring the flexibility to attend athletics events and activities during evenings, weekends, and other non-standard hours as part of being an engaged leader. Ultimately, you must be a confident leader and possess the presence to respectfully push back on management in order to be successful in this role - you must be a trusted advisor to coaches and the Athletic Director.
Key Job Responsibilities: Guide Business Operations
- Work closely with ticketing, sales, concessions, and other revenue streams, ensuring compliance with university and external partner requirements. Monitor & Report Performance
- Track budget vs. actuals, provide actionable updates to leadership and coaches, produce NCAA/EADA reports, deliver Controller's Office updates, and complete annual audits. Confident Leadership
- Possesses the presence and assurance to advocate for priorities, respectfully push back on management when necessary, and lead with conviction while fostering trust and respect across the organization. Develop Stakeholder Communication Channels
- Serve as the primary financial liaison for the Athletics Department, translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for coaches, administrators, and campus partners. Tailor communications to the audience, ensuring coaches understand their budgets and financial obligations, administrators have the data they need for strategic decisions, and campus partners are informed of the department's fiscal status. Foster transparency, trust, and collaboration through regular meetings, reports, and data-driven presentations. Drive Analytics & Reporting Excellence
- Partner with IT to design, implement, and continually refine financial analytics, dashboards, and reporting tools. Leverage data to deliver timely, transparent, and actionable insights, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement in accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making support. Be A Leader
- Supervise finance staff, serve as HR liaison for hiring, onboarding, and separations, and build strong working relationships with coaches and stakeholders. Lead Athletics Financial Strategy
- Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting (5 years), procurement, capital planning, and scenario analysis, ensuring alignment with UW-Green Bay's Division I Athletics goals. Actively monitor and enforce budget discipline, ensuring individual coaches adhere to their team budgets and that the Athletics Department as a whole meets its financial targets. Department:

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or other related field at time of application Minimum of 5 years work experience in accounting or budgeting or financial management Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills in working with a diverse community. Aptitude to manage multiple projects and have the ability to prioritize and work. Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts. Proficiency using database, spreadsheet, word processing and other applicable software applications. Microsoft office suite experience preferred. Preferred Qualifications:
5 years experience in higher education field. Master's degree in business or related field. Experience with EADA reports and NCAA audit. Working knowledge of NCAA and/or Horizon League rules and regulations. Experience in Microsoft Excel. Experience working on analytics such as Tableau or other dashboard programs. Conditions of Appointment:
A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
