Temp Maintenance Worker - Recycling Solid Waste

This is a non-exempt, part-time position limited to 1,300 hours annually. Under the supervision of the Public Works Director and the immediate supervisor, the employee assists in the successful operation of Pueblo RecycleWorks. Duties include operating vehicles and equipment in maintenance, construction or utility tasks, collecting and disposing of refuse in assigned areas, and performing unskilled and semi-skilled work.

Essential Functions

• Assists with Pueblo RecycleWorks site operations which include yard clean‑up, equipment maintenance, and assisting vendors
• Provides customer service by answering questions, educating customers on materials accepted by Pueblo RecycleWorks, assisting persons with disabilities with unloading vehicle of accepted items, monitoring recycling containers, and performing other customer service duties
• Loads and disposes of household trash and other debris
• Operates light duty vehicles, trucks, and trailers
• Safely operates a variety of hand and power tools such as push mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, rakes, shovels, and loppers
• Cleans, maintains, and services equipment and tools
• Safely operates a motor vehicle for driving to work locations
• Performs duties and special projects as assigned

Physical Requirements

The job requires heavy lifting up to 96 pounds, kneeling, crawling, walking, driving motor vehicles, and working in an office setting. The position involves outdoor work with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, fumes, dust, water, electrical currents, traffic, and other potentially hazardous conditions. The position requires proficiency with a personal computer, Microsoft Word and Excel, accurate record keeping, independent work without direct supervision, clear communication, effective customer service skills, and familiarity with Pueblo City streets, locations, and landmarks.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• A high school diploma or GED
• A valid, unrestricted driver's license by date of application and a valid, unrestricted Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire

Special Conditions of Employment

Required to submit and pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check to include an MVR check. The position is as‑needed, on‑call. The driver’s license must be maintained; failure to maintain may result in termination.
