JOB DESCRIPTION

Bus Aide

Pool postings are utilized to gather applications for potential job openings that may become vacant in a department throughout a year.

DEPARTMENT:

Transportation

REPORTS TO:

Director of Transportation

JOB SUMMARY:

Serves in a support role for the bus driver in managing the environment for students during transportation, crossing streets, and loading and unloading at home and at school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure the safety of the students by buckling students in their seats and securing wheelchairs before the bus starts; keep students seated and under control during transportation; assist students with crossing of streets; assist students when loading and unloading at home and at school.

2. Maintain on the bus an updated file on students assigned to the bus.

3. Maintain and demonstrate knowledge and skill in the bus safety equipment, emergency procedures,

bus route and pick-up points, and wheelchair lifting and locking equipment.

4. Handle emergency physical problems during the loading, transporting and unloading of students.

5. Coordinate with the driver and transportation and school administrators regarding unusual, suspicious

behaviors of events with students.

6. Cooperate fully with school administrators and staff in special requests concerning student behaviors and

physical management.

7. Account for students' personal belongings.

8. Ensure that the bus ride is an educational experience for the students.

9. Submit required reports on time.

10. Constantly check and observe on the welfare and safety of students riding the bus.

11. Assume other responsible job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

High School Diploma or GED required. Good physical and emotional health, including the ability to lift and restrain students of varying age levels and sizes. The ability to participate in all required bus aide training and professional development. Physical dexterity, coordination, mobility and visual acuity to perform the essential functions of the position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

One hundred eighty (180) days per year.

EVALUATION:

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
