Special Collections and University Archivist
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in library and information science
1-2 years of experience in an academic library or museum
Demonstrated attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
Familiarity with collection management and preservation standards for archives, special or museum collections
Experience teaching workshops and course-integrated “one-shots”
Ability to respond to reference questions and research inquiries
Basic knowledge of cataloging

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with marketing and outreach of special collections and/or archives
Experience curating displays and exhibits
Experience digitizing materials, especially fragile and unique items
Familiarity with Springshare products (e.g. Libguides, LibAnswers)
Experience establishing productive working relationships with students and faculty
Knowledge of records management
Duties and Responsibilities Special Collections
Manage the Grasselli Library’s G.K. Chesterton Special Collections Reading Room and collection, ensuring proper storage, treatment, and preservation of rare books and other unique materials.
Contribute to the organization, description, classification, and deaccessioning of the collections in accordance with established and evolving standards.
Conduct reference and research requests with JCU community and visitors related to items in special collections.
Teach course-integrated classes and workshops using materials from special collections.
Archives
Manage the University Archives and other materials related to the history of the university, ensuring proper storage, treatment, and preservation.
Oversee accession, organization, and description of University Archives collections in all formats according to archival standards.
Engage with JCU offices and organizations to collect materials.
Conduct reference and research requests with JCU community and visitors related to items in the archives.
Teach course-integrated classes and workshops using materials from the archives.
Library Gallery and Displays
Plan and develop library exhibits with internal and external constituencies.
Oversee curation of Hetzel Family Gallery exhibits and other library displays.
Develop library outreach and programming related to exhibitions and displays.
Other Duties
Hire, train, and supervise student workers (e.g. Reading Room welcome desk, processing materials, digitization projects, gallery exhibitions, and displays).
Participate in library and JCU committees and working groups, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
