Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Senior Manager of Finance to join and lead critical functions within our dynamic finance team. This highly visible and critical role will be instrumental in directing and owning key financial operations and providing advanced, comprehensive financial analysis to shape and support strategic decision-making and company growth.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep and proven expertise in financial management and be a capable leader. While previous health insurance experience is a plus, we are open to candidates from other industries with strong financial acumen and a willingness to quickly master the industry intricacies.
Work Arrangement—Hybrid (4 days in-office, 1 day work-from-home)
Key Responsibilities Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and Strategy
Lead and own the end-to-end annual budgeting and forecasting processes, driving alignment across all departments and partnering closely with the Director of Finance to develop comprehensive financial plans focused on medical expenses and administrative costs.
Direct the development and maintenance of robust, dynamic longer-term (e.g., 5-year) company financial models that critically support strategic initiatives, major product development, and sophisticated pricing decisions.
Lead capital adequacy planning and serve as the subject matter expert on analysis related to Risk-Based Capital (RBC) and Balance Sheet Adequacy Review (BCAR).
Conduct advanced, predictive financial analysis of claims trends, utilization patterns, and revenue streams to proactively identify key drivers, risks, and significant opportunities for performance improvement.
Evaluate the complex financial impact of Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and other operational programs on overall profitability and Medical Loss Ratio (MLR), providing recommendations for optimization.
Prepare executive-level comprehensive financial reports and presentations for senior leadership and the Board, translating complex performance against budget, forecasts, and strategic goals into actionable insights.
Financial Reporting & Internal Metrics Oversight
Oversee and be accountable for the accurate reporting and reconciliation of key financial metrics, including premiums, claims incurred (including IBNR), and administrative expenses for internal and external analysis.
Own the internal calculation and analysis of the MLR, providing deep, regulatory-compliant insights into performance against ACA requirements and internal targets.
Manage the preparation of data and analyses required for regulatory filings and act as a key finance liaison during the process.
Lead the finance team's support during financial audits and regulatory reviews, ensuring timely provision of data and accurate explanations.
Maintain expert knowledge of changes in statutory accounting principles and healthcare regulations impacting financial reporting and internal metrics.
Team Leadership & Process Optimization
Serve as a dedicated leader and coach to supervise and mentor junior and mid-level finance staff, actively fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and high performance.
Drive the identification, design, and implementation of significant process improvements across all finance operations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and analysis.
Ensure the highest standards of financial integrity by maintaining and enforcing strong internal controls for all financial processes.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with a proven track record of owning and delivering complex financial forecasts and long-term company models.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to influence and present complex financial information clearly and concisely to executive leadership and non-finance stakeholders.
Proven ability to work independently, take full ownership, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA, CFA, or MBA is strongly preferred.
Experience with a publicly traded company.
Big 4 public accounting experience.
Prior experience in a significant leadership or supervisory role (required for this senior title).
