Position Overview The Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) is seeking a skilled
Java Developer
to join our Technical Services Division (TSD). This role contributes to the design, development, and enhancement of software applications that support ASRS operations, including financial processing systems and member-facing web services.
As part of an Agile Scrum team, you’ll collaborate with 4–7 team members to deliver production-ready features in iterative sprints. Developers at ASRS work across all layers of the application stack — from UI and business logic to back‑end services and databases — gaining exposure to a variety of modern technologies and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications using Spring Framework and Oracle Database.
Collaborate within Agile Scrum teams to deliver functionality through iterative sprints.
Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and daily stand‑ups.
Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
Support DevOps pipelines and deployment automation using modern CI/CD practices.
Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance.
Engage with cross‑functional teams to define requirements and ensure technical feasibility.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of hands‑on experience with Java (Java 8 or higher)
Strong expertise with
Spring Framework (Spring Boot, MVC, RESTful services)
Solid understanding of
object‑oriented programming ,
design patterns , and
Agile development practices
Preferred Skills
Front‑end experience with
jQuery
and
Bootstrap
Test automation experience with
Cucumber
and
Selenium
Experience with
Apache Tomcat
Familiarity with
Jira
for Agile project tracking
Exposure to
DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines
Additional Information
Contract Duration:
6 months, with potential for full‑time conversion.
