Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
This position is located at the Haak’u Health Center in Acomita, New Mexico. The purpose of the position is to protect and prevent trespass, theft, fire, accidental or willful damage and destruction, and/or loss of materials or property. The position’s primary responsibilities are to provide security services in safeguarding buildings, property, occupants, visitors and patients within and surrounding areas, including Housing.

Security Duties (80%)
Serves as the Security Officer on a regular rotation of shifts.
Primary responsibility in performing protective service work in guarding facility owned or leased buildings and property. Safeguarding and protecting Government equipment, material and controlling access to buildings or property by employees, visitors, residents and patients.
Provides routine visual observations or patrol of assigned areas within and outside facility buildings, parking areas, facility grounds or public areas. Enforce pertinent administrative rules and regulations governing traffic control, parking, building or other facility access and breaches in physical security controls (locks, fences, gates or other barriers).
Visually observes and inspects parked vehicles, entrances, lobby areas, corridors, restroom and other areas of the facility.
Immediately responds to the discovery or observation of property damage or suspects by notifying personnel of standing instructions.
Provides protective service work in observing flow of incoming visitors, employees, patients and other personnel within facility buildings. Handles unruly visitors, and if necessary, contacts law enforcement officials or agencies to assist. Directs flow of foot traffic away from disturbance by providing relative information within or adjacent to the building.
Responsible for continuous and close observation of facility buildings and facility grounds for detection of possible fire hazards, obstruction of access and zones marked for First Responders or Fire Hydrant access. Provides immediate assistance in extinguishing small fires using handheld fire extinguishing devices as directed. Contacts local emergency Fire Department to report fire incidents that require their immediate attention.
Responsible for detecting and repelling attempts of suspected persons who are attempting to trespass or commit theft of property. Responds to reported incidents and investigates to gather information. Actively observes traffic behavior to prevent incidents, apprehends and detains violators of laws, rules and regulations. Refers and turns over cases to law enforcement officials or agencies to follow up accordingly.
Follows protocol for Code Green (external disaster) to direct all traffic within and outside the facility such as vehicle traffic and crowd control.
May be required to assist medical personnel in dealing with patients who are mentally ill or are experiencing a crisis that are influenced by distress associated with a personal medical condition.
Provides assistance to medical personnel by transporting patients and escorting patients or family members.
Performs other security related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Administrative Duties (20%)
Responsible for drafting and submitting daily reports of irregularities to the supervisor on a daily basis.
Responsible for reporting security incidents into daily security software system.
Maintains required logs, reports, messages and checklists.
Assists in dispatching personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations.
Participates in all trainings and meetings.
Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: One (1) year in a healthcare setting, law enforcement or military service.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
Must pass health and background screenings
POSITION PREFERENCES
Basic Security Officer training certificate
Bilingual skills in English and the Keres native language.
Prior experience working with Indian Health Services (IHS), a tribe or tribal organization.
