This position provides support to the Restorative Justice Program of the Victim Services & Restorative Justice Unit. The program offers restorative services and opportunities to those under the jurisdiction of the MN Department of Corrections and those impacted or harmed by individuals under the same jurisdiction. Restorative practices in this setting are post‑conviction, typically taking place in a carceral environment, and most often respond to severe harms (homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence). The role will assist RJ Program staff with the development, implementation, and evaluation of current and upcoming process and program offerings.

Key Responsibilities

This position is anticipated to last up to one year and requires 20 hours per week. Specific hours and days of work will be determined at the time of appointment based on business need and applicant availability.

Minimum Qualifications To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all the minimum qualifications listed below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Current enrollment in a post‑secondary or graduate study program. Please indicate the college where you are currently enrolled, as well as your anticipated graduation date.

Experience and skills in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect information/documents.

Ability to use customer service skills on the phone, in person, and online to provide effective general and specialized office support with common courtesy, tact, interest in positive problem solving, empathy, and the ability to organize ideas logically.

Skills in business English sufficient to write, edit and file documents using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Experience working with diverse populations; knowledge of restorative justice philosophies and trauma‑informed practices; problem solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of and/or experience working with government‑based and community‑based victim service/advocacy organizations.

Experience with restorative justice practices or work with a restorative justice organization.

Physical Requirements The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. This position will require Tuberculosis screening prior to hire.

Additional Requirements

Screening of top candidate(s) on criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations, and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.

Applicants must pass a criminal history check, which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Reference and employment history checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E‑Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F‑1 STEM OPT extensions.
