Azure Capacity Infrastructure Services (CIS) – Senior Software Engineer
The Azure Capacity Infrastructure Services (CIS) team is responsible for building and evolving a platform that automates capacity provisioning and de‑provisioning across Azure’s data center infrastructure. As a Senior Software Engineer you will collaborate with stakeholders across the Azure infrastructure layer, drive engineering excellence, and help scale the platform to meet ever‑growing capacity demands.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with stakeholders to determine user requirements for specific scenarios.
Identify dependencies and develop design documents for products, applications, services, or platform components.
Write, test, debug, and refactor code to improve performance, maintainability, and ROI.
Leverage product expertise and coordinate with project managers and other teams to drive project plans and releases.
Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), guide other engineers, and manage on‑call responsibilities for system/product/service health.
Proactively research and adopt new technical solutions to enhance availability, reliability, observability, and performance.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
OR equivalent practical experience.
4+ years of experience building and maintaining backend systems.
4+ years working on cloud infrastructure, including building and maintaining hyperscaler cloud offerings.
4+ years in lower‑level infrastructure work (networking, storage, compute, or other core cloud layers).
Other Requirements
Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check required upon hire and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 6+ years of similar experience.
OR equivalent experience.
Compensation Software Engineering IC4 – Base pay USD $119,800 to $234,700 per year. For the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is USD $158,400 to $258,000 per year.
