The assistant director maintains a safe, operational environment, oversees building maintenance, custodial services, emergency preparedness, and capital improvement projects.

Departmental Overview The Student Union is the administrative arm of the ASUC Student Government, providing quality services and programs for the campus community. SUFMO supports facilities such as MLK Jr. Student Union, Eshleman Hall, Anthony Hall, and Anna Head Alumnae Hall.

Position Summary The Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance manages the facilities of the Student Union, ensuring building operations, maintenance, and repairs are performed efficiently. The role supports the Director of Facilities with capital projects, supervises custodial staff, and coordinates safety training, keycard access, and emergency preparedness.

Responsibilities

Supervise facilities coordinators and custodial staff and coordinate with campus partners for maintenance and repairs.

Maintain performance metrics and ensure excellent service to staff and custodial teams.

Handle routine or emergency maintenance issues in collaboration with the Facilities Operations Supervisor.

Administer the building’s preventive maintenance program and emergency preparedness plan.

Lead capital improvement projects and major repairs with support from the Facilities Director.

Co‑ordinate security, cameras, electronic access, and physical keys.

Track budget, cost estimates, and report maintenance operations.

Recommend improvements to facilities processes.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of facilities maintenance policies, customer service, dispatch, safety, and emergency preparedness.

Strong interpersonal skills: active listening, multitasking, negotiation, mentoring, leadership, problem solving, and quality analysis.

Experience supervising facility maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and custodial work.

Experience working in a university or student‑affairs setting.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with unionized work environments and collective bargaining agreements.

Salary & Benefits Annual salary range: $109,000.00 – $118,000.00. This is an exempt, monthly‑paid position.
