Job Description AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer III based in Oakland, San Francisco, CA. The engineer will support a wide range of projects across industries including entertainment, commercial, industrial, government, and parking structures. The role offers opportunities to develop analytical and design skills while focusing on seismic design, retrofits, and advanced structural analysis methods.
Responsibilities
Prepare calculations and drawings for structural design.
Author structural reports and studies.
Coordinate with other disciplines and provide construction administration support.
Take ownership of smaller assignments, managing design, analysis, reporting, and coordination independently.
Mentor and teach junior engineers.
Make technical decisions based on building code interpretation and industry practices.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of structural design experience with steel, concrete, and masonry buildings.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
California Professional Engineer license (PE).
Demonstrated experience applying major structural design codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 7, etc.).
Experience with 3‑D structural analysis software (ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE).
Experience designing in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.
Experience with wind and seismic lateral design, especially ASCE 41 for retrofitting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with REVIT/AutoCAD.
Preferred
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
California Professional Engineer license (SE).
Experience with performance‑based design.
Experience with ASCE 41 for retrofit projects.
