Job Description The Fermentation Scientist will support upstream process development, scale‑up, and manufacturing operations for microbial fermentation within a GMP‑regulated pharmaceutical environment.
As part of the MSAT team, this role bridges process science and manufacturing, ensuring robust, efficient, and compliant fermentation processes for clinical and commercial production.
Responsibilities
Support the design, execution, and analysis of microbial fermentation experiments to aid process optimization and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support tech transfer, scale‑up, and routine production.
Monitor and interpret fermentation data to ensure process consistency and identify areas for improvement.
Author and review technical documentation, including protocols, reports, and SOPs.
Support investigations, change controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain and operate bioreactors (glass and stainless steel) and associated upstream equipment to meet project needs.
Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and environmental regulations.
Essential Skills
Experience with bioreactor and fermentation processes.
2–5 years of experience in a GMP‑regulated biopharma industry.
Hands‑on experience with stainless steel and glass bioreactors.
Comfortable working with bacterial and biohazardous materials.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a life science field or in chemical engineering.
Experience in bacterial fermentation, process development, and cell culture.
Work Environment The role is based in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment within the MSAT lab area and process development lab, with associated office space.
The schedule comprises a standard 40‑hour work week with evening shift coverage for larger‑scale overnight runs, not occurring every night.
The typical schedule is Monday to Friday, first shift, but flexibility is required for monitoring the bacterial fermentation process overnight based on business needs.
The schedule is always mapped out in advance, so you will know what days overnight monitoring will be required for planning.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 – $45.00 per hour.
