Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Stress Engineer to join our team, focusing on laying out structural load paths for early conceptual designs. This role involves using first principles approaches with a strong understanding of metallic and composite structures. The position requires executing trade studies to determine the most weight‑efficient concepts that meet high‑level requirements.
Responsibilities
Develop structural load paths for early conceptual designs to meet high‑level requirements.
Utilize first‑principle approaches with a strong understanding of metallic and composite structures.
Conduct trade studies to evaluate various design solutions and select the most weight‑efficient concepts.
Collaborate effectively in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment with design, fabrication, assembly, and other key functions.
Create, manage, and run Global Finite Element Models (GFEM) for the stress team.
Develop and execute Detail Finite Element Models (DFEM).
Create simple working Finite Element Models (FEM) for conceptual design work to validate design principles.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in viewing Catia designs, stress analysis, and structural analysis.
Experience with finite element analysis (FEM) and Femap.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, aerospace applications, and composite materials.
10+ years of experience preferred; candidates with 5-7 years of experience will also be considered.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with conceptual design first‑principles analysis approaches for primary composite structures.
Knowledge of various composite structures failure modes and limitations.
Familiarity with unique analysis methodologies associated with composites.
Work Environment This is a long‑term contract (18 months+) to support defense programs for an aerospace client. The position requires working onsite in a defense facility (flexible schedule).
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, Kansas.
Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $70.00 – $100.00 per hour. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
