Position Summary The Field Operations Manager is responsible for driving operational excellence in field services for PV systems, inverters, medium voltage equipment, BESS (battery energy storage systems), and other solar technologies. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and project coordination to ensure optimal equipment performance, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.
You will lead initiatives that improve safety, quality, training, and productivity across all operations. Working closely with management, you will oversee field teams, support client relationships, and ensure projects are executed on time and to the highest standards. This role includes developing training programs, managing field staff and contractors, and providing hands‑on technical support when needed.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy (45%)
Lead and develop the field operations team, including in‑person training and mentorship.
Generate proposals, statements of work, and cost estimates.
Create and execute operational strategies for regional/ service portfolios.
Develop solutions for site issues and direct teams in implementation.
Establish testing, troubleshooting, audit, and safety plans.
Promote a strong safety culture in line with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company policies.
Safety & Compliance Oversight (20%)
Audit site processes for safety, compliance, and operational standards.
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (e.g., lock‑out/tag‑out).
Recommend and implement policy/procedure improvements.
Service Oversight & Reporting (10%)
Review and close service tickets for site visits, repairs, and special projects.
Ensure timely reporting, documentation, and billing of services.
Training & Development (15%)
Deliver technical, functional, and safety training for field engineers, technicians, and electricians.
Participate in hiring, coaching, evaluations, and career development.
Qualify contractors/subcontractors for field suitability.
Other Duties (10%)
Support emergency repairs and other field needs as directed.
Maintain readiness to respond to client/project demands on short notice.
Required Qualifications Education
College degree (BSEE/BSME) or technical school degree with equivalent experience.
Experience
5+ years technical experience with PV systems, BESS, and data acquisition systems.
Hands‑on work with 600V–1500V systems.
Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NFPA 70E.
3+ years C&I/utility‑scale solar O&M experience.
3+ years managing operations of solar sites or large‑scale maintenance projects.
Additional Qualifications
7+ years of managing direct reports.
Manufacturer certifications (inverter/BESS), thermography (Level 1), AVO transformer/relay training.
Networking/IT skills (RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP).
NABCEP PV Installer or O&M Certification.
OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid.
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and coaching abilities in a matrix work environment.
Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to meet tight deadlines.
Commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Willingness to work irregular schedules as required.
Physical Requirements
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Safely climb ladders (while carrying up to 50 lbs.) and work at heights.
Navigate uneven terrain and work in extreme weather conditions.
