Propulsion Controls Engineering (PCE) is seeking an

Outside Machinist Lead

at our San Diego, CA location. The position requires a minimum of 6 years of marine and/or shipyard experience.

Job Summary / Outside Machinist Lead Installs, maintains, and repairs ship’s main propulsion and auxiliary systems including, but not limited to: Steam, Gas Turbine, Diesel propulsion, propulsion shafting, propellers, rudders, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and steering systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs ship’s sub-systems including, but not limited to: pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchanges, hydraulic/electric motor operators, valves, fluid control components/assemblies, and fluid/air/hydraulic systems. Tests installed equipment to ensure system meets specifications. Installs and tests various shop equipment.

Essential Functions

Provides organization and leadership for crew(s) within PCE’s facility and/or at assigned work-sites.

Ensures/provides training to junior personnel in shop/shipboard procedures, inspection, operation, and repair/overhaul of related equipment and/or systems.

Interfaces with associated trades, contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, customers and schedulers as necessary to ensure effective and efficient accomplishment of assigned task(s) and milestones.

Ensures proper identification and availability of necessary equipment and material to accomplish scheduled work and meet all milestones.

Attends daily production, planning, and/or progress meetings as assigned, providing accurate, up-to‑date, and knowledgeable planning or status inputs in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to accurately write Condition Found Reports, detailing results of inspections, tests, noted discrepancies, and recommendations as necessary to include pricing of associated parts and labor.

Accurately interprets and preforms work in accordance with designated Process Control Procedure(s) (PCP).

Knowledgeable in Navy WAF and Tag Out systems; able to develop, submit, and / or close out WAFS, to include verification and concurrence of all tag out requirements necessary to safely perform work.

Able to effectively read and comprehend work specifications, technical manuals and standards, NAVSEA Standard Items, blueprints, and drawings.

Able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications Education:

High School or equivalent level preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

Minimum 6-10 years experience in ship repair.

Extensive knowledge of shipboard equipment, systems and subsystems.

Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items and applicable NSTMs.

Efficient in machinery alignment processes using laser and dial indicator methods.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

This position may require access to U.S. government or military sites. As such, candidates must be eligible to obtain base access clearance, which includes passing a background check and presenting valid government‑issued identification. Per federal requirements, acceptable ID must be REAL ID‑compliant or an approved form of federal identification, such as a valid U.S. passport.
