Position Summary
Zurich Insurance is hiring a
Construction Casualty Underwriter / Underwriting Specialist
to join our team in Overland Park, Kansas. This hybrid role requires working from our Overland Park office three days per week while partnering with brokers, agents, and construction partners across the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a customer industry advocate focused on improving the customer experience by understanding risk and offering the best end‑to‑end solutions.
Apply a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
Use risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale.
Engage in market‑facing and production activities within the growing construction division.
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
Basic Requirements – Underwriter
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience in insurance, market‑facing, banking, mortgage, finance, or construction.
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national and local filing regulations and guidelines.
Basic Requirements – Underwriting Specialist
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing, banking, mortgage, finance, or construction.
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 6 years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an associate degree and at least 1 year of experience in underwriting or market‑facing, banking, mortgage, finance, or construction.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an associate degree and at least 4 years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Technical knowledge of Construction Casualty Underwriting.
Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.
Sales execution mindset.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Base salary range: $58,700.00–$121,700.00. For the Underwriter level the range is $58,700.00–$96,200.00, and for the Underwriting Specialist level it is $74,300.00–$121,700.00. Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility is set at 10% for both levels.
