Day shift M-F, overtime as required

Reports to :

Maintenance Manager

Compensation :

$59.24 / hr, non-exempt

Scope of the position

Electrical & Instrument Technicians install, repair or maintain in accordance with manufacturer’s or site specifications, electrical and instrument equipment using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Shift work is required.

Key Responsibilities

Inspect, repair and / or replace items such as instruments, valves, disconnects and starters in order to protect personnel, equipment and to keep processes running.

Remove and replace filters in equipment in order to maintain equipment efficiency.

Lubricate motors, valves and bearings and other equipment in order to prolong life and keep equipment running and efficient.

Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair and reassemble equipment such as automatic valves, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, in order to restore to operation.

Measure, cut, bend and install conduit, fittings and tubing as needed to install or repair equipment.

Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wire, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures.

Drill and tap various types of metal and plastics in order to produce pieces and parts to desired specification or to install new equipment or revise existing.

Make list of needed materials in order to do specific job.

Lock, tag, try and test energy sources in order make equipment inoperable and safe to work on.

Plan and coordinate work with other crafts while installing new work or replacing existing parts with new models.

Inspect ladders, tools, job sites, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, electrical cords, etc. in order to ensure safety and protect personnel.

Communicate with other employees using hand-held radios, telephones, e-mail, etc. in order to perform jobs efficiently.

Troubleshoot and make repairs on automatic valves, electrical starters, motors, relays, pneumatic and electronic instrumentation.

Perform routine maintenance on electrical, pneumatic and mechanical devices using hand and power tools, electrical and electronic measuring and test devices, diagnostic equipment, vendor literature, technical manuals, blueprints and schematic diagrams.

Remove and place back into service control type instrumentation after calibrating, services, troubleshooting, range change and maintenance work performed such as : Flow transmitters Level transmitters Temperature transmitters On-line process analyzers.

Remove malfunctioning motors. Replace with new or rebuilt.

Dismantle and remove old equipment and wire without interfering with unit operation. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

I&E Technicians will reinforce the safety principles of the area and site and ensure trainees follow the standard work practices and procedures.

Measure, cut and solder various instrument or electrical devices in order to replace defective equipment or install new equipment.

Make brackets and hangers in order to secure items.

Repair / repack or replace automatic valves in order to restore to working order.

Troubleshoot electronic instrumentation problems related to the process and make necessary repairs.

Troubleshoot and correct problems with Distributive Control Systems equipment using test equipment and techniques to restore equipment to operation.

Perform routine maintenance on Distributive Control Systems using hand and power tools, electrical and electronic measuring and test devices, diagnostic equipment, vendor literature, technical manuals, blueprints and schematic diagrams. Troubleshoot and repair solid state electronic devices.

Create, review and modify job procedures, SOP’s and other knowledge documents.

Qualifications and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalency is required.

Five (5) years industry experience in instrumentation and electrical.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.

Good verbal and written communication skills and computer knowledge.

Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Employee is occasionally required to climb stairs / ladders (including vertical).

Employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.

Must be physically capable of spending long hours sitting in an office environment.

Must be “fit for duty”.

Work Environment

Work in outdoor environment.

Work in noisy environment.

Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals.
