Summary
This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Clinical Standards and Quality (CCSQ), Survey Operations Group (SOG).
As a Nurse (Survey and Quality Compliance), GS-0610-13, you will serve as a clinical resource regarding the oversight of quality and safety of participating health care facilities.
Overview Open: 10/30/2025 – Closing: 11/19/2025
Salary: $107,103 – $161,448 per year.
Pay is based on location and grade.
Locations: Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Woodlawn, MD; Kansas City, MO; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Dallas, TX; Seattle, WA.
Travel: up to 80% of time may be spent in domestic travel.
Telework: eligible—status determined by agency policy.
Supervisory status: no.

Duties
Conduct onsite inspections of health care delivery provided to beneficiaries to evaluate quality of care, quality of life and the provision of other services.
Provide guidance and direction on survey issues to state agency (SA) staff.
Formulate or recommend needed revisions or changes to existing program policies, criteria, standards and procedures.
Analyze statistical and historical data, claims data, and reports to assess SA effectiveness in the survey process and to recommend improvements.
Requirements
You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
Subject to a background and suitability investigation.
Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted state license or registration as a registered nurse (RN).
Must have a valid driver’s license from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
Must successfully complete the Basic Long‑Term Care Healthcare Facility Surveyor Training Course (BLTCC) within the first year of employment and the Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test (SMQT) to survey independently.
Qualifications
At least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal government.
Experience must include conducting onsite surveys or quality reviews to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of health care facilities or providers.
All relevant experience, including volunteer work, will be considered.
Education
A degree (associate, bachelor’s, graduate or higher) from an accredited nursing program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Foreign nursing schools require official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
License/Registration
Proof of current, active, full and unrestricted RN license or registration, evidence to be submitted at the time of application.
