Travel Nurse RN – Operating Room (OR)
We're looking for Operating Room RNs for an immediate travel nurse opening in Lynchburg, VA. The right RN should have 1–2 years of recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or RN first assistant.
Responsibilities
Assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients, including pre‑ and post‑surgery care and patient education.
Perform circulating OR nurse tasks: monitor patient status during surgery, prepare instruments for specific procedures, respond to complications alongside the physician.
Perform scrub nurse tasks: handle and prepare operating instruments and equipment within the sterile field, maintain inventory of surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure.
Act as communication liaison between patients’ families and the operating team.
Ensure correct procedures are performed on the correct patient.
Initiate patient education plans as prescribed, teaching patients and families medication and home‑care needs.
Provide basic bedside care and medication administration with documentation.
Additional Duties
Circulating OR Nurse: attend to patient comfort and safety, accurate specimen handling, equipment monitoring, surgical item inventory.
Scrub OR Nurse: selection and handling of instruments, inventory of surgical items.
RN First Assistant: deliver direct surgical care, control bleeding, suture patients post‑surgery.
Physical Demands OR Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for long periods, bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty. RNs must lift 20 lbs easily, and may need to lift up to 50 lbs during patient handling. Potential exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases in the operating room environment.
Requirements
BLS certification.
2 years of RN experience.
Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.
