AdventHealth Tampa, a faith‑based not‑for‑profit 626‑bed tertiary‑level acute care hospital located in the uptown district of Tampa, FL. The hospital specializes in advanced cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience, digestive health, orthopedics, women’s services, pediatrics, oncology, endocrinology, bariatrics, wound healing, sleep medicine, and general surgery including minimally invasive and robot‑assisted procedures. The campus hosts GME programs in general surgery, OB/GYN, internal medicine, and transitional year.
Position Summary:
Under supervision, the Endoscopy Technician – Advanced Practice is the primary assistant to the physician performing the procedure. The technician assists the physician on advanced endoscopic procedures for patients with complex digestive health issues with minimal direction. Responsibilities include preparing, disinfecting, and maintaining all scopes and equipment; troubleshooting equipment; assisting with patient care; participating in teaching conferences; and collaborating in research projects.
Key Responsibilities (selected):
Assist physicians in performing advanced endoscopic procedures on high‑acuity patients, including Grade III Complex ERCP, SPYGlass (cholangioscopy), complex endomucosal resection, Sphincter of Oddi manometry, pancreatic endotherapy, ultrasound‑guided interventions, peroral endoscopic myotomy, double balloon enteroscopy, endosuturing, cystgastroscopy, ESD, endoscopic vacuum therapy, and Overstitch suturing.
Select and operate appropriate equipment and accessories; troubleshoot equipment issues; anticipate physician needs during procedures.
Use procedure‑specific lasers and adhere to all laser safety standards; collaborate with the Florida Hospital Laser Safety Officer.
Act as preceptor or trainer for other technicians learning advanced procedures; host observers in the clinical setting and facilitate learning in porcine labs.
Participate in national teaching conferences and live training courses; collaborate with the research team to ensure supplies, protocols, and new product trials are executed properly.
Qualifications:
Minimum two years of experience as an endoscopy technician or comparable ancillary health care role.
Experience assisting GI physicians with complex ERCP (SPYGlass, sphincter of Oddi manometry, pancreatic endotherapy) and EUS‑guided biliary and pancreatic ductal interventions.
Hold a valid Heartsaver/AED certification.
Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) Advanced Associates Program (certificate required).
Demonstrated ability to maintain high safety and quality standards; strong teamwork and patient‑centered care skills.
