Real Property Rights Staff Attorney (SIGN ON BONUS BELOW) The Real Property Rights Protection Staff Attorney reports to the Real Property Rights Protection Managing Attorney, Director of Advocacy, or designee. The Unit protects real property rights and promotes sustainable landownership. The Staff Attorney will investigate and litigate cases to ensure clients have generational landownership, providing comprehensive legal services in civil cases per CLS mission and applicable standards.
Responsibilities
Develop legal education programs and advocacy strategies to address real property rights protection within the CLS service area.
Travel to conduct outreach, represent clients, and attend relevant trainings and meetings.
Determine client eligibility for legal services per program policies, priorities, and grant requirements.
Provide high‑quality legal services: identify problems, investigate, advise, negotiate, represent in courts, administrative bodies, and prepare documentation.
Handle real‑property related matters such as probate administration, chain‑of‑title issues, tax sales, quiet title actions, land partitions, and disaster assistance programs.
Represent clients across the CLS service area and collaborate with community organizations to strengthen neighborhood infrastructure.
Manage complex litigation (federal, appellate, trial) efficiently with advanced advocacy skills.
Supervise paralegals and legal assistants as appropriate.
Conduct advanced legal research using Westlaw and practice software.
Maintain a regular, active caseload.
Submit required reports, timesheets, and administrative duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Commitment to CLS mission, vision, and values.
Member in good standing of The Florida Bar.
Demonstrated commitment to low‑income constituents and community service.
Strong speaking, writing, listening, negotiation, problem‑solving, and advising skills for diverse audiences.
Continuous professional & legal knowledge through reading and continuing education.
Bondable.
At least 3 years of legal experience, preferably in legal services with an emphasis on real property (unit specialty).
Experience before community and interagency committees, city boards, commissions, and organizations (preferred).
Courtroom litigation skills (preferred).
Microsoft Office proficiency.
Ability to travel throughout the 12‑county service area, including evenings and weekends.
Valid Florida automobile license and proof of insurance.
Physical ability: prolonged desk work and lifting up to 25 lb occasionally.
Salary $70,000 – $85,000 plus 10% sign‑on bonus on final offer.
