The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Leader is to provide appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in one or more Child and Youth programs. This includes the provision of guidance, assistance, and mentoring for the Child and Youth Program Assistants. Duties

Direct care and instruction to children and youth (6 weeks to 18 years) and guidance, assistance, and mentoring for CY Program Assistants. Perform routine day-to-day assignments independently with technical assistance from supervisor. Group duties into categories: mentor, curriculum, indoor/outdoor environment, interactions and relationships, supervision, parent/employer communication, assessment, compliance, additional responsibilities. Mentor: Train lower-level employees, assist T&C Specialist, model behaviors, record observations. Curriculum: Plan activities based on needs, review plans, incorporate special instructions, prepare/implement options, recommend changes, set up displays. Indoor/outdoor environment: Prepare, arrange, maintain activity areas, suggest improvements, inventory equipment. Interactions & Relationships: Promote positive interactions, use child guidance and youth development techniques. Supervision: Maintain control, accountability, oversee arrival/departure, supervise during activities. Parent/Employee Communication: Interact professionally, participate in conferences, brief other employees and parents. Assessment: Observe and document developmental progression, assist with assessment tasks. Compliance: Maintain standards for DoD certification and accreditation, ensure compliance with laws, policies, regulations. Additional Responsibilities: Collect, maintain, report program participation data and others as assigned. Requirements

Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state, or national accreditation institutions used in DoD's Child and Youth Programs. Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing. Positive or failure to submit is basis for removal. Pass pre-employment physical, provide immunization evidence, be free of communicable diseases. Proof of education if not provided at time of application. Must successfully pass E-Verify employment verification check; resolve discrepancies. Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation. Qualifications

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for children and youth from 6 weeks to 18 years. Knowledge of child and youth development principles, practices, and techniques. Skills to apply Federal and State laws governing detection and prevention of child abuse/neglect. Skill in understanding interests and motivation of individuals and groups. Skill in program planning, organizing, employee scheduling. Skills to provide leadership, mentoring, guidance to CY Program Assistants. Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations. Ability to train employees on a variety of issues including recognition of childhood illnesses and child abuse. Ability to develop curriculum outlines and lesson plans/guides. Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, with strong interpersonal skills. One year of experience at the CY-02 (GSE-04) level or equivalent displaying knowledge of developmentally appropriate programming. Education

Must provide copy of HS Diploma, GED, or College Transcripts when applying. Completion of DOD Standardized Module Training AND 12 months of Regular Full Time Experience at the CY-II (GSE-03) Level. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Military School-Age (MSA) credential AND high school diploma or equivalent. Associate or higher degree awarded in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Youth Recreation, Physical Education, etc.
