Summary
The Senior Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design develops new mechanical systems/modules and maintains existing designs. Research mechanical concepts and create system solutions using 3D modeling and simulation software. Complete calculations and test, validate, and qualify systems, adjusting as needed. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the mechanical system that they have designed.
Works with cross-functional teams (engineers, customers, supply chain, project leadership) to ensure robust and high-quality product development. Enhances designs with feedback from manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design, and simulations.
Detailed Description
Lead the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects involving multiple domains.
Position as a global SME with comprehensive knowledge and industry recognition, providing technical leadership to a global engineering team.
Take responsibility for non‑technical project elements (people, financials, etc.).
Act as primary customer contact when reviewing and interpreting customer specifications.
Analyze trade‑offs in complex systems, recommending solutions and developing deployment strategies and plans.
Lead the deployment of strategic technologies/programs and coordinate global deployment efforts.
Manage relationships with key vendors/partners when required.
Prepare calculations before completing technical drawings.
Design, modify, and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs, creating drawings during design reviews.
Create designs in line with company procedures, regulations, and client standards.
Submit drawings for review to management, engineering teams, and customers.
Use customer feedback and data to upgrade, improve, or repair existing machines.
Provide support during the manufacturing process.
Finalize designs and send prints to the production department.
Physical Demands
Performed in a normal office environment.
May require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor.
Frequent repetitive manual movements (data entry, computer mouse, calculator).
Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience 11 to 14 years.
Typical Education Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation $150,000 – $200,000 USD per year.
